Before you hire snow removal in Northeast Ohio, ask about the trigger depth, when you'll be cleared during a storm, whether walks and steps are included, whether salting is included or extra, insurance, how lawn or edging damage is handled, and whether it's a seasonal or per-visit agreement.
The worst time to find out your snow company is unreliable is 6 a.m. on a weekday with eight inches in the driveway. Ask these questions before you sign up.
The 10 questions
- What snow depth triggers a visit? This decides how often they come.
- When will I be cleared during a storm? Ask where you are on the route and whether they come back during long storms.
- What exactly gets cleared? Driveway only, or front walks, steps and the public sidewalk too?
- Is salting included or extra? And what product do they use?
- Are you insured? Always ask, especially if equipment will be working near your house, cars and landscaping.
- How is damage handled? Torn turf along the edges or a clipped landscape light happens. Ask what they'll do about it.
- Seasonal or per-visit? Know which you're agreeing to. Here's how they compare.
- Where do you pile the snow? You don't want it on your plants or blocking the mailbox.
- How do I reach you during a storm? A call or text that actually gets answered matters.
- Are you local? A crew based nearby can get to you when the roads are bad.
Red flags
- No clear trigger depth or schedule
