How much does leaf removal cost in Northeast Ohio?

Quick answer

Leaf removal pricing in Northeast Ohio depends mostly on lot size, how many trees drop on the property, whether leaves also need to come out of beds, gutters and walkways, and whether everything is hauled away. Texting photos of the yard is the fastest way to get an exact quote.

Every November, Medina County yards disappear under maple and oak leaves. Before you spend a few weekends raking, here's what actually goes into the cost of having it done for you.

What affects the price

  • Lot size and tree count. A quarter-acre lot with two maples is a very different job from a wooded acre in Hinckley or Brecksville.
  • Where the leaves are. Lawn only, or also packed into beds, under shrubs, along fences and on the walkways and driveway?
  • Wet vs. dry. Wet, matted leaves after a rain are heavier and slower to move.
  • Haul-away. Bagging and removing leaves takes more time than mulching them into the lawn.
  • One visit or two. Big-tree properties often need a mid-fall visit and a final cleanup after the last leaves drop.

Add-ons that make sense in the same visit

  • Gutter cleaning, since the gutters are full of the same leaves
  • Cutting back perennials and cleaning out beds
  • Re-cutting bed edges so they're crisp in spring
  • Getting on the snow removal route before the first storm

Is it cheaper to just mulch the leaves?

For light leaf cover, mowing over the leaves to chop them into the lawn is fine and even good for the grass. For heavy layers, thick wet leaves smother the lawn and cause dead spots and snow mold by spring. Those need to come off.
